The 55 year old radio station has once again donated food parcels to Bethany Home in Mthatha.  As part of the station’s birthday celebrations the station gave away R2000.00 daily to listeners between the month June and July. The overall winner went home with R55000.00, R30 000.00 goes to the overall winner and R25000.00 goes to a charity home of their choice.

Bhekithemba Ndlela who won the R55000.00 chose Bethany Home that is based in Ikhwezi Location, Mthatha as a charity. The news were received with great enthusiasm by the home. Rose Kasumbi, Director at the home, expressed her sincerest gratitude to Bhekithemba and Umhlobo Wenene FM for the considering the home. Rose said “we are grateful to Umhlobo Wenene FM and Mr Ndlela, people of your nature are very few. We pray that Umhlobo Wenene FM receives more 55 years on top of what you have.”

Bhekithemba chose the home because of his sister who did volunteer work there previously. He was touched when he saw the children without a father figure in their lives. When he won the station competition he immediately thought of the home. The station bought food parcels, nappies, and toiletries for the home on Saturday, 26 September 2015. Children and care givers at the home welcomed the gesture with warm hands. They were singing and ululating at the same time.

Phumzile Mnci, Umhlobo Wenene FM Station Manager and on air personalities were also present at the venue. The on air personalities include: Lulu Haarmans, Sibongile “SBJ” James, Blaq Maci, Luckeez Matyholweni, and Gwiba Nkonki. The station manager encouraged Bethany Children’s Home team continue their commitment and hard work. “What you are doing for the children is great, sacrificing your time and focusing on these children means a lot. Umhlobo Wenene FM is a friend to everyone, one of the reasons we are here is to show that we also care about our society.” added Mnci.
