Let's connect:

Host Lavuth'bhayi, Siwel'thukela

Who are you?

My name is Monwabisi Bangi better known as “Gudla” who was born and raised at Mngazi, Libode. I am the second child of the five (6) children that my parents were blessed with. Unfortunately or fortunately, I am the only son in the family. I grew up under difficult situations. I had to learn to be a cowherd (umelusi) as I was in charge of my father’s cattle’s.

What show do you do?

I present Lavuth’Ibhayi which is aired on Saturdays between 10:00 – 13:00 and Siwel’Uthukela which is aired at night between 22:00 – 00:00 every Thursdays. Both programs are a Maskandi music show which focuses on embracing the deep culture of Africans and returning listeners to their roots.

When and how did your career start?

My career or rather, love for radio started in 2005 when I got an opportunity to be a radio presenter on their morning show at Unitra Community radio. I allowed an opportunity present itself when one of the presenter for Maskandi was unavailable so I had to present the Maskandi show. After that incident I never looked back because on 2006, I got to do it. I won an award as the Best DJ of the station in 2008 and got nominated in 2009 and 11 but unfortunately did not win. 2015, I entered the Lavuth’Ibhayi talent search and made it in Top 6 and listeners voted for me to do the show by over 100 000 votes. There was no chance of other nominated candidates to win J

What have you achieved thus far within your career? What are your career highlights?

So far, I have been a judge at the SAMAs 22 and SAMA 23 under the Maskandi Category . I have also taken the show I present, Lavuth’Ibhayi to 2,4 million.

Beside radio, what do you do?

I am a business man, I do events and also hire stage together with sound.
