UMHLOBO WENENE FM HANDS OVER THE MIC TO THE NEXT GENERATION THIS YOUTH DAY

Gqeberha, Monday 15 June 2026 – As South Africa commemorates Youth Day and marks 50 years since the historic 1976 youth uprising, Umhlobo Wenene FM is celebrating the power, talent and potential of young people through a special on-air takeover that places the station’s next generation of broadcasters firmly in the spotlight.

On Tuesday, 16 June 2026, listeners can tune in to a unique Youth Day programming experience that will see some of Umhlobo Wenene FM’s brightest young talents taking control of the airwaves across the station’s daytime schedule.

From producers and technical producers to presenters and content creators, these young professionals are the driving force behind much of the content listeners enjoy daily. This special broadcast will provide them with an opportunity to step from behind the scenes and late-night shows, into the spotlight, showcasing their skills, creativity and passion for broadcasting.

Throughout the day, the station’s youth talent will lead programmes across a variety of genres, bringing fresh perspectives, youthful energy and authentic conversations that reflect the aspirations and realities of South Africa’s young people.

Adding a unique twist to the celebration, the station’s beloved main presenters for each of the featured shows will return during the final hour of their respective programmes to engage with the young broadcasters, sharing stories, lessons and reflections on leadership, mentorship and the importance of creating opportunities for the next generation. These conversations will offer listeners a rare glimpse into the journey of building a career in broadcasting while highlighting the value of intergenerational collaboration.
