While Artificial Intelligence now plays a significant role in enhancing content creation, creativity and audience engagement, Umhlobo Wenene FM believes that technology alone does not build trust \u2013 radio broadcasters do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, the station will turn back the clock and invite listeners to experience radio as it was done before AI, through the voices of legendary broadcasters who are now retired and no longer on Umhlobo Wenene FM\u2019s airwaves. Collectively, these radio icons bring over 60 years of broadcasting experience, having built credibility, loyalty and deep listener connection using nothing but skill, authenticity and an intimate understanding of their audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWorld Radio Day gives us an opportunity to remind ourselves and our listeners that before algorithms and automation, radio was built on trust, credibility and genuine human connection,\u201d says the Acting Programme Manager at Umhlobo Wenene FM, Reggie Solani. \u201cBy bringing back these legends, we are honouring the foundations of broadcasting and allowing a new generation of listeners to experience the kind of radio that shaped communities and built lifelong loyalty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Day with the Legends \u2013 On-Air Line-Up<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Listeners can tune in throughout the day to hear these celebrated radio personalities return to the microphone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>06h00 \u2013 09h00: Mbulelo&nbsp;<em>\u201cThe Big Apple\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Ngewu with Newsreader Fikile&nbsp;<em>\u201cBra Fix\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Lubisi<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>09h00 \u2013 12h00: Pozisa Matoti with interviewee Pelma&nbsp;<em>\u201cSis Pelma\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Lekhele<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>12h00 \u2013 13h00: Pat Dalindyebo with Siphosethu Nonganga<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>13h00 \u2013 15h00: Thozamile&nbsp;<em>\u201cSir Thoz\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Nyakatyha<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>15h00 \u2013 18h00: Ntsikelelo&nbsp;<em>\u201cNtsiki\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Maphosa with Newsreader Thandile&nbsp;<em>(Titi)<\/em>&nbsp;Cekisani<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What Listeners Can Expect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each show will broadcast for two hours, with the final hour dedicated to reflective conversations comparing radio then versus radio now. Presenters will engage with listeners through call-ins and voice notes, allowing audiences to share appreciation and memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional elements include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The return of classic radio features from the presenters\u2019 eras.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Music playlists drawn from each legend\u2019s broadcasting journey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Listener-focused competitions scheduled in the final hour of each show.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Celebrating the Power of Human Connection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through this special programming, Umhlobo Wenene FM reaffirms its belief that while technology continues to evolve, the heart of radio remains human. By honouring the broadcasters who built trust without digital tools or AI, the station celebrates radio\u2019s enduring power to inform, entertain and unite communities.
