Host of Iikwayala Eziphambili

Who are you?

Born in Fort Beaufort, Eastern Cape where I lived with my Grandparents, later moved to Port Elizabeth. I am married and blessed with one daughter. Due to passion and love of music I then decided to study Music Education with the Nelson Mandela Metro University and still in progress with my Theological studies with the University of Fort Hare.

What show do you host?

I joined Umhlobo Wenene fm in 2007 as a Choral music presenter hosting a multi-award winning show titled “Iikwayala Eziphambili”, taking over from the legendary Thozamile Nyakatya (Sir Thoz).  Being passionate about choral music and being a follower of this well known legend for years, made it so easy for me to fit in his big shoes.

When and how did your career start?

Started working as a Security Guard while studying and worked for the department of Justice in Cape Town, Kuilsriver Children’s Court .I then pursued the radio career working with various community radio stations both as a Presenter and News Reader. Worked for Ukhamba Production a company producing “IMIZWILILI“ on SABC 1 as a scriptwriter. Later joined Umhlobo Wenene fm as a choral music presenter hosting the above mentioned multi-award winning show titled “ikwayala Eziphambili”, taking over from the legendary Thozamile Nyakatya (Sir Thoz). My involvement in Choral fraternity started at an early age where I involved myself with various local choirs as a chorister, soloist, vocal coach and conductor.

What have you achieved thus far within your career?

Honoured by the Eastern Cape Choral Music Awards as the best choral presenter, later won the National Choral Music Awards in three consecutive years as the Best Choral Music Presenter and Best Choral Music Programme Nationally. I am currently serving as a Choral Development officer of the Nelson Mandela Metro Choral Association developing Conductors and Choirs in the Nelson Mandela Metro District. Worked at the Nelson Mandela Metro University Department of Arts and Culture as the Music Director and the co-cordinator of the staff choir.  Serving as an Adjudicator in South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod.

Besides radio, what do you do?

I have worked with both Private Sector and Gorvemental institution as a Voice Over artist Mc/Programme Director and Perfoming Artist. Sole owner of an Events Company called Cantiamo Events and Communications which produces a Choral Tv show for Bay Tv. The Company is currently working with various Govermental and Private Institutions in Events Co-cordinating, providing Catering, Decoration, Performing Artist, Sound and Visual Equipment as well Mc’s/Progamme Directors. I am now focusing on my singing career as I have already released a choral/classical album titled Making Music with Friends, this Album consists of my own compositions but inspired more by artists like Josh Groban and Andrea Boceli.
