Host of Laphumi Khwezi

Who are you

My name is Babalwa Louw known as “ Mabhamza “ . I was born and bred in the small village of Alexandria in the Eastern Cape  . Growing up with my grandparents made me develop the love of  news . We used to switch on the radio when its time for the news and story telling . that’s when my love for radio started.

What show do you host?

Woow … what an interesting Question .. Am a news lady , I have a noise for the news .. Am hosting Laphum’ikhwezi  that’s one of our current affairs show which air weekdays between 05h30 and 06h30 . where we engaged with  our listeners to take part on our topics . Laphum’ikhwezi is one of the shows that are growing in numbers because we and my team came up with an idea of hosting guests or expects on the issue that we discuss on that particular day . One thing I want my listeners to walk away with when am on air is the information , to be educated , and also laughter as I believe that when am behind the mic ,I am there to inform , educate and entertain the listeners …

When and how did your career start?

Hahahahahahaha! I started with Radio in 2004 @ Inkqubela Community radio in Zwide . where I was a newsreader then in 2006 my x programme manager  made programme  changes and he gave me a slot between 18h00 and 18h30 to present our Current Affairs show Ziphakwa Zishushu and six months down the line he introduced me to Party time slot between 22h00 and 01h00 am . In 2012 Mhlobo Wenene (the station of Champions) had a Female Presenter Talent Search where I took part but unfortunately for me I didn’t make it …

Few months after the talent search , I received a phone call from my x- Programme Manager  Xolani Yisaka who told me that he received a Phone call from one of SABC news Senior Producers telling him that they heard Potential on me when they were listening to the programmes we presented during the Talent Search programme . that’s how I joined the station of the Champions ..

Xolani Yisaka  ,Patrick Dalindyebo and Nontlahla Tandwa influenced me to be the OAP I am today…

What have you achieved thus far within your career? What are your career highlights ?

I don’t want to say it’s my achievement only , together with my A-Team we achieved a lot in our Show because Laphum’ikhwezi its one of the  shows that have more than million listeners . And with our interviews with newsmakers we manage to help those in need  ,like receiving response from the Special Pension Veteran after the interview we had with  the Veteran from U-Mkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans Association …

Besides radio , what do you do ?

Working at Discovery and also a Chairperson of Buzo Club . and I sometimes MC in weddings and Parties ..One thing my listeners don’t know about me is that I used to work as a credit clerk at Ellerine’s store in Port Elizabeth. Another thing is that I love to laugh..

" good things come to those who wait? NO good things come to those who work for them"
