Umhlobo WeUmhobo Wenene celebrates 62 years by giving away a car

In celebration of Umhlobo Wenene’s 62nd birthday, the SABC radio station has collaborated with music band Jesus Collective of Collective Records to bring a car giveaway competition to its listeners. The birthday cume will see the winner of the competition receive a brand-new Renault Kwid my22 1.0 Zen AMT, which will be announced and handed over on 31 August 2022.


According to the radio station, listeners may enter for the competition through an SMS line by texting “UWFM62, their name and surname” to 45858 from 1 August 2022. Each week, two finalists will "battle it out" on-air by sharing a playlist of the songs they would play in the car should they win the car. Listeners will vote for the most appealing playlist from the two contenders and the chosen winner from each week gets carried over as finalist for the finale. On 31 August, one of the four finalists’ names will be drawn out randomly live on-air and that person will walk away with the new car. The winner will also get treated to an all-expenses paid trip to Gqeberha for the handover and join in the station festivities on 3 September 2022.

Cwy Mandindi who is the marketing manager at Umhlobo Wenene highlighted that being on-air for that long meant that the station had to pay homeage to its listeners and reward them for their loyalty. “Umhlobo Wenene is among the radio stations with the highest loyalty and audience following in South Africa and is rated among the top three most listened-to radio stations in the country. The partnership we have forged with Jesus Collective enabled us to reward that loyalty and is also different in that one of the tracks the band will be launching, Kuyenzeka, is the bedrock of the station’s birthday campaign”, added Mandindi.
