Zukiswa Mqumbisa wins a Bright star award in the Liberty Radio Awards 2018

 

Zukiswa Mqumbisa, is a 32 year old enthusiastic producer for Umhlobo Wenene FM education programmes. She has obtained her National Diploma in Journalism at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2010.

Why should she get the bright start award?

To describe her in a nutshell she is a go getter an enthusiast, hard worker, bubbly, dynamic, always eager to learn and not afraid to try new things, she has a positive attitude towards any situation and she loves working with people from different walks of life and likes to be involved in the transformation of the lives of South African citizens.

As a producer for SABC Education, at uMhlobo Wenene FM.  She is entrusted with a pivotal and magnificent task of educating, informing, empowering and motivating the youth and young children of South  Africa. Currently she produces three shows Izimvo Zabantwana, Scamto and Youth Ke Yona.This is a very important task as it’s the foundation years of our children in their school lives.

To make sure she executes the task given to her well, Zukiswa makes sure that in each and every topic she tackles,he first pont of engagement is doing  extensive research work, vox pops, go to schools and communities, record people’s views followed by interviews with people who have first-hand experience on what will be discussed  on the shows.

“My job is what makes me who I am. It is what I love doing, I don’t even feel like I am working because it completes me.” “Also in my community, I’m involved with community development projects.  In 2015 I started a gardening project called Limekhaya Project which means (grew your own backyard food garden), what inspired me to start this project was the love I have for people, the need to assist to address the issue of poverty and the high rate of unemployment.To date many people are still benefiting immensely from the Limekhaya Project, some have opened their small vegetable businesses.”This on its own depicts the kind of person Zukiswa is.

Furthermore Zukiswa is currently engaging with relevant departments and other stakeholders to assist under privileged children with school uniforms in her community.

 She also motivates at schools, hospital and communities and people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. As someone who comes from a very poor background Zukiswa understands what young girls go through and the challenges they encounter.

Zukiswa has won the Bright Star Award in the Liberty Radio Awards. It's a great honour to win a bright star award.

This is what Zukiswa had to say about her winning the Bright Star Award. “This award inspires me to make sure I continue to educate, motivate, give voice to the voiceless and also inform the audience about current issues. It further inspires me to dedicate myself more to my job and use it as a vehicle to touch and change lives.”
